Sacred Heart Teen Club

Sacred Heart Teen Club was founded in September of 1976 by Father Kavanaugh and Sister Barbara.  These co-founders saw the need to provide youth-centric leadership within Sacred Heart Parish, and envisioned Teen Club as that forum.  Sacred Heart Teen Club is the longest running, and most productive youth group within the Parish.

Since its founding, the mission of Teen Club has always been to prepare high school students for their adult life after they graduate.  This is accomplished through teaching a broad range of life lessons, and real word interactions, as well to positively influence and direct the teens of our community to make the right choices as defined by our Roman Catholic faith.  We proudly continue this mission today.

All high school aged teens are welcome to join, regardless of faith, background, or beliefs and are taught to respect and learn from our differences.  Teen Club encourages all teens to worship at The Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church on Sundays and all holy days of obligation.  We motivate our teens to comfortably express themselves spiritually and emotionally.  As a result we will cultivate their leadership abilities, sense of self, and awareness in their ability to deal with negative situations and put God first when faced with day-to-day obstacles.

Enrollment in Teen Club begins in September of each year, with designated weeks of orientation, and closes a few weeks after.  Annual bulletin and church announcements will designate those dates.  All high school aged teens are encouraged to enroll during orientation, as once orientation ends, teens must typically wait for the following year to enroll.   Teen Club runs in parallel with the school year, and meets on Wednesday evenings during that time.

We culminate each year with a weekend retreat where the teens can experience life outside of Queens, where they can get closer to God and themselves. Each year is a unique experience that is shaped by the wonderful teenagers we work with and the staff who volunteer.
